Key Findings:
- 7% of the Kenyans in the locked zone say the recent lockdown and curfew has greatly affected their businesses and jobs
- Half of residents in the locked zone are dependent on side hustles and short loans as a copping mechanism during the covid-19 pandemic. Only 38.2% have successfully transitioned to working from home.
- Covid-19 protocols have affected 90.5% social life of Kenyans in the locked zone.
- 74% of Kenyans have faced challenges in affording basic needs during the covid-19 pandemic, with a majority 59.8% forced to skip meals.
- 7% of Kenyans are facing difficulties servicing long term (above 3yrs) loans, leading to rising default rate.
- Majority of Kenyans 61.2% have had an uptake of the mobile /unsecured loan in the last 3 months, with 45.2% recurring.
- Kenyans are aware of government funds/loans received by the National Government to mitigate Covid -19 effects; most of them have not benefited from the funds and 82.9% feel the funds/ loans have been poorly utilized
- 7% of Kenyans are not aware of relief/mitigation measures initiated by their respective county governments
- Majority of Kenyans have not been vaccinated, with 44.7% not having the intention to get vaccinated, and 17% not sure.
- Most Kenyans do not admit to having mental health problems, due to associated stigma, lack of information etc but framed differently 51.1% admit to have experienced depression, sadness and anxiety.
